Who we are
Remora is a universal remote control app for smart TVs. This policy explains what information Remora collects, how it is used, and the choices and rights you have, wherever you live.
Information we collect
- Email address — used as your account identifier and to send one-time sign-in codes. We do not send marketing emails.
- Device information — a random device identifier, a device name (for example the phone model) and when it was last used, so you can manage the phones signed in to your account.
- Phone trial eligibility — Apple DeviceCheck or Google Play Integrity device recall helps prevent repeated free trials after reinstalling. We keep a random trial credential's hash and the server-recorded start and expiry; Apple or Google keeps a limited trial-used flag. Verification tokens are processed transiently, not stored. These checks do not collect your IMEI, contacts, photos or advertising identifier.
- Subscription status — your plan, verified purchase and renewal dates, payment events and store transaction identifiers. Website payments are processed by Stripe; iPhone purchases by Apple; Android store purchases by Google Play. Google purchase tokens are stored securely for server verification. We never receive or store your full card details.
- Diagnostics — when a TV connection fails, we may record the TV platform, brand, model, app version and a short error description. Network addresses, hardware (MAC) addresses, pairing codes and keys are removed before saving.
- Support messages — the messages, category and any screenshot you choose to send to Remora Support, along with your device information and app version.
Information that stays on your phone
TV pairing keys, TV addresses and your saved TVs are stored only on your phone. Remora talks to your TV directly over your local Wi-Fi network; your TV commands are not sent to our servers.
How we use information
- To create and secure your account and let you sign in.
- To enforce the device limit and protect against unauthorized access, including rate limits on sign-in codes.
- To provide and manage your subscription.
- To answer your support requests and notify you in the app when we reply.
- To diagnose and fix connection problems and improve TV compatibility.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Sharing
Cloud hosting and email providers process account and support data to operate Remora. Stripe processes website payments and may receive your email, purchase and billing information. Apple and Google process their store purchases under their own privacy policies. We share information when required by law or to protect users' rights. We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.
Security
Account, support and payment-server connections use HTTPS. Some TVs require unencrypted local HTTP or self-signed local certificates; those local commands are not sent through Remora servers. Use a trusted private Wi-Fi network. Sign-in codes expire, account access is restricted, and administrative actions are logged. No system is perfectly secure.
Retention
We keep account information for as long as your account is active. Support conversations and diagnostics are kept only as long as needed to resolve issues and improve the app. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information unless we must keep it to meet legal obligations. Minimal anonymous trial-eligibility records are retained to prevent repeated trials and are not linked to your email account. Provider-held eligibility flags follow Apple and Google's retention rules; Google currently retains recall flags for three years after their last read or write.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, LGPD, POPIA or similar laws), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You will not be treated differently for exercising these rights. To make a request, contact us through Support in the app. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children's privacy
Remora is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact Support and we will delete it.
International processing
Remora is available worldwide, and your information may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, to protect information transferred internationally.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will let you know in the app. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
Deletion
You can initiate deletion in Settings → Delete account, or at remoratv.com/delete-account without reinstalling the app. Confirm ownership with a fresh email code. Personal account information, registered phones, support messages, screenshots and account-linked diagnostics are removed. Website and Google Play recurring billing is stopped first; Apple renewals must be cancelled separately in Apple subscriptions. Minimal restricted financial, purchase-ownership and deletion records remain for legal obligations, refunds and disputes and to prevent transfer or reactivation of deleted purchases. Pending provider failures are retried; deletion is not a refund.
Contact us
Use Help & support in the app for privacy questions. Public contact options configured by Remora are shown below. Account deletion is also available online without app sign-in or installation.
